Rallo AV01 White Receives the Tre Bicchieri 2024 Reward
New edition and new Tre Bicchieri for the Gambero Rosso Vini D’Italia 2024 .
The highest recognition to the eccellent wines of the Peninsula, was assigned to AV01, an orange wine obtained by Catarratto grapes grown in the vineyards of Pattipiccolo, in Alcamo (Tp).
Following the Tre Bicchieri bestowed to the Zibibbo, Al Qasar (guide 2021), the Grillo, Bianco Maggiore (guides 2020, 2018, 2016, 2014) and the Catarratto, Beleda (guides 2019, 2017, 2015), the Azienda Agricola Rallo is at its ninth Tre Bicchieri with the AV01. The awards undoubtebly confirm the company’s vocation towards white wines, defining all the elements of the oenologic tradition of the province of Trapani, with innovative interpretation.
AV01 is a natural wine, obtained by spontaneous fermentation, no added sulphites nor synthesis chemical agents that may interfer with fermentative processes. AV01 is a full-bodied and structured wine, slightly tannic that however doesn’t compromise the palate pleasantness due to the lively acidity.
Monovarietal Catarratto, native son of the Alcamo territory and name AV01 with a double meaning: “a – voi”, an expression that embraces the innate Sicilian hospitality, but also the initials of Andrea Vesco, current president of the company and represntative of the family’s forth generation.
What makes us so proud, is that we have tested and believed in the versatility of the Catarratto grape variety that is now universally recognized as the most distinguished representative of the island’s oenology. Catarratto no longer sits behind the scenes but is now the leading protagonist of the affirmation of Sicily as international referential oenologic region.
The experimentation that has taken place in the vineyard as well as in the winery, has demonstrated the great potential of this variety and its incomparable versatility.
The AV01 wine, obtained with the 2021 vintage from perfectly healthy and ripe grapes, is harmonious, dry, mineral and slightly tannic with outstanding concentration of fruit.
The gentle, sandy hills of Alcamo, where an alternation of woods, olive orchards and wheat fields create the best microclimate for the cultivation of the soil and the vine, adopting methods and implementations permitted by organic certified agriculture canons.
“We are proud that this oenologic project has received the wine tasters of this prestigeous Gambero Rossa guide’s appreciation.
Receiving the Tre Bicchieri recognition for our AV01 wine is an important and meaningful achievement.
It is not only the affirmation of our vocation towards white wines, but also because it represents the experimental challenge we have engaged and taken forward: to create post-modern wines that tell the story of our island as truthful and authentic possible.
On behalf of the Vesco family and all those who have participated to the 2017 project since the very beginning, we express our gratitude to the tasters, curator and editor of the guide, for this important recognition received.”
